**NEW YORK -** The Trump Organization has announced its latest venture, Trump Mobile, a cell phone service and gold-colored phone offering, sparking renewed debate over potential conflicts of interest stemming from the former President’s business dealings. The announcement, made on Monday at Trump Tower, comes despite mounting ethical concerns about the Trump family profiting from their political influence.
Eric Trump, overseeing the Trump Organization, positioned Trump Mobile as a patriotic choice, emphasizing that the phones will be built in the U.S. and the service will maintain a domestic call center. The company plans to sell the “T1 Phone” for $499 starting in August, but it will not be designed or made by Trump Mobile.
The announcement follows several real estate ventures in the Middle East and Vietnam and it comes as Donald Trump continues to use regulatory agencies, such as the FCC, for personal disputes.
The monthly service, dubbed “The 47 Plan,” will cost $47.45 and include unlimited calls, texts, and data, as well as roadside assistance and telehealth services. A mockup on the company’s website features Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great,” and an etched American flag.
Industry analysts are skeptical about the venture’s potential beyond Trump’s loyal base. IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo questioned the value proposition for the average American, noting the high monthly fee and the inherent challenges of the cell phone market.
The launch comes amid a surge in Trump-branded merchandise, with recent financial disclosures revealing millions in revenue from items such as coffee table books, watches, sneakers, and fragrances.
This is not Trump’s first foray into telecommunications. He previously promoted a multi-level marketing company, ACN, which was later sued for fraud. The announcement has already drawn criticism, with concerns being raised about how federal regulators will treat existing cellular carriers that partner with Trump Mobile.
The Trump Organization has faced challenges in the past, with previous ventures such as mid-priced hotel chains faltering and the Trump name being removed from properties. However, recent forays into the crypto market, including a Trump Media & Technology Group ETF, have seen some success.
