**Bali Flights Cancelled, Airport Closed as Indonesian Volcano Erupts**
**JAKARTA, June 18, 2025** – Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia, has erupted, causing significant disruption to air travel and forcing evacuations. The volcano, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, spewed ash 11 km high on Tuesday, prompting the country’s volcanology agency to raise the alert level to its highest.
The eruption continued on Wednesday, belching a 1 km ash cloud, leading to the cancellation of several international flights to the popular resort island of Bali from countries including India, Singapore, and Australia. The Bali international airport website confirmed the cancellations.
Authorities have also closed the Fransiskus Xaverius Seda airport in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara, from Wednesday until Thursday to prioritize passenger safety, according to airport operator AirNav.
Local disaster mitigation officials have evacuated residents from two villages near the volcano, reporting streets covered in thick ash, gravel, and sand. No casualties have been reported. Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki last erupted in May.
