**Thazhambur Road in Navalur Plagued by Accidents, Traffic Congestion; Residents Demand Upgrade**

**CHENNAI – June 15, 2025** – Residents of Navalur are calling for urgent action to upgrade the dangerous and congested Thazhambur Road, a crucial connector between Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) and Thazhambur. The single-lane road, lacking hard shoulders, is struggling to cope with the increasing volume of traffic, including heavy vehicles, leading to frequent accidents and frustrating delays.

“It’s only a matter of time before a serious tragedy occurs,” said Ashok Rajendran, a resident of 11 years. He cited numerous incidents, including an autorickshaw carrying schoolchildren falling off the road and frequent head-on collisions. “Road-widening to four lanes is the only solution.”

Locals report that the narrowness of the road makes it difficult for even two cars to pass at the same time. Traffic jams are common, particularly during school hours. The lack of maintenance and presence of potholes, worsened by recent gas pipeline construction, further exacerbate the problems.

“Even two cars cannot take the road at the same time,” said Ramesh, another resident, highlighting the daily struggle faced by commuters. He also noted that infrequent and inadequate repairs offer only temporary relief, as the road surface quickly deteriorates under the weight of heavy vehicles.

Dust pollution and poor visibility, especially during dry weather, add to the hazardous conditions. During rains, the road becomes slushy and waterlogged. Ravi, a resident who commutes daily to Thazhambur, described the road as excessively dusty and poorly maintained. “The Google maps sometimes shows the visibility on the road as poor when vehicles kick up dust.

Residents are urging local authorities to prioritize the upgrade of the Thazhambur Road to a four-lane highway, complete with proper shoulders and lighting, to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters.
