**Katpadi, India – June 15, 2025** – Residents of Katpadi, Vellore district, are eagerly awaiting the inauguration of their first full-fledged government taluk hospital on June 25th by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The 60-bed hospital, located in Serkadu village, is a multi-crore project aimed at providing advanced and affordable medical care to the region’s growing population.

The ₹14.30 crore facility, executed by the Public Works Department (PWD), boasts modern amenities including ECG, CT scan, and surgery theatres, as well as round-the-clock power supply backed by diesel generators. This new hospital promises to be a lifeline for residents, particularly those from the over 40 surrounding farming villages who currently face a 15km journey to the Government Medical College Hospital in Adukkamparai for advanced treatment.

“Many senior citizens in Katpadi now depend on private hospitals for treatment, especially during emergencies,” said local resident K. Sumathi. “The new government hospital with better facilities will provide us cost-effective treatment and can be easily accessed.”

Currently, Katpadi relies on a decades-old Primary Health Centre (PHC) which operates limited hours and refers most cases to the Government Medical College Hospital. The new facility, spread across 15 acres, will offer specialized sections for cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, nephrology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Separate wards will be available for emergency, accident-related cases, and cancer treatment.

The hospital also prioritizes accessibility and sustainability. The facility includes two lifts, drinking water facilities, separate washrooms on each floor, a rainwater harvesting system, and solar panels to power the lighting. Separate parking areas for cars and two-wheelers, as well as CCTV surveillance, have also been implemented. Health officials have confirmed that bus services to the new hospital will be increased to improve accessibility for visitors.

Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan inspected the new hospital on Friday, accompanied by Vellore Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi, signaling the final preparations for its grand opening. Chief Minister Stalin is also scheduled to visit Ranipet and Tirupattur districts on June 25-26, where he will distribute government welfare assistance and review ongoing works.
