Sat Jun 14 16:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Nintendo’s Switch 2 Shatters Sales Records, But Is It Worth the Upgrade?

**Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console has become its fastest-selling system ever, moving over 3.5 million units in less than a week after its June 5th release.** Demand is so high that retailers are struggling to keep it in stock, with online resellers marking up the $449 MSRP by hundreds of dollars.

While securing a Switch 2 might be tough, early reviews suggest it’s a worthwhile upgrade. The Switch 2 boasts a larger screen, more powerful hardware, and is backwards compatible with the vast majority of the original Switch’s library. Enhanced versions of games like *Tears of the Kingdom* are available for a small fee (free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers), and the new console can even handle demanding titles like *Cyberpunk 2077* and *Elden Ring*.

One of the most impressive improvements is the updated Joy-Cons, which attach magnetically and can even be used as mice on almost any surface. While the original Joy-Cons are still compatible, the difference in quality is noticeable.

However, the Switch 2 isn’t perfect. The Joy-Con straps can make shoulder buttons slightly harder to press, and video-conferencing features are limited during gameplay. The screen, while vivid and high-definition, isn’t as luminous as the original OLED Switch. Furthermore, the internal memory is limited, requiring an additional purchase of an expensive microSD card for storing numerous games.

The Switch 2 launched alongside two new titles: *Mario Kart World* and *Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour*. *Mario Kart World* expands on the familiar formula with an open-world element, allowing players to freely roam between races and discover hidden challenges. *Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour* is a tech demo disguised as an interactive museum, showcasing the console’s features through minigames and quizzes.

Overall, the Switch 2 is a significant upgrade that is recommended, especially for those eager to play classic Nintendo games with a boost or get into the new Mario Kart World game.
