**Uttar Pradesh Duo Arrested for IPL Scam Targeting Young Cricketer in Karnataka**
**Belagavi, India – June 13, 2025** – Police in Belagavi have arrested two men from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly defrauding a young cricketer from Karnataka of over ₹24 lakh (approximately $30,000 USD) with false promises of a spot on the Rajasthan Royals IPL team.
Susanjan and Diwakar, both 25 years old, were apprehended in their hometown of Sultanpur following an extensive investigation. They are accused of targeting Rakesh Yadure, a 19-year-old cricketer from Chinchani near Chikkodi, and his family. Yadure’s father, a security guard, took out loans to make the payments demanded by the fraudsters.
According to Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled, the scam began after Yadure posted photos and videos of a successful cricket match he played in Hyderabad in May 2024 on Instagram. The suspects, posing as IPL team selectors, contacted him and lured him in with the promise of an IPL opportunity.
The fraudsters then convinced Yadure that he had been shortlisted for the Rajasthan Royals. Over several months, between December 2024 and April 2025, they extracted payments from Yadure’s family, ranging from ₹2,000 for “registration” to subsequent fees for matches, totaling ₹23.53 lakh.
Police investigation revealed that Susanjan had a prior history of similar scams. The victim’s family filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station on May 17, 2025, leading to the arrests.
Dr. Guled urged the public, especially young aspiring athletes, to be wary of online scams and verify any claims of sports selection, jobs, or financial rewards. This arrest highlights the growing problem of online fraud targeting vulnerable individuals with false promises.
