**Ahmedabad, India** – A major Air India plane crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport today, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming lives. Among the survivors is a British national of Indian origin, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was returning to the UK.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and a substantial amount of fuel for its London-bound flight, crashed into a hostel for doctors near a medical college just 32 seconds after takeoff. Initial reports indicate at least five fatalities within the hostel, with fears that the number may rise.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, seated in 11A, is currently hospitalized with chest injuries. He recounted hearing a loud noise approximately 30 seconds after takeoff before the aircraft went down. He is desperately seeking information about his brother, Ajay Kumar Rakesh, 45, who was also a passenger on the flight.
“I have no idea how I exited the plane,” Ramesh reportedly told his family, highlighting the trauma of the experience.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the crash site as a scene of intense fire due to the large quantity of aviation fuel on board, complicating rescue efforts.
The flight was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a seasoned pilot with 8,200 hours of experience, and First Officer Clive Kundar, with 1,100 hours. The pilot issued a mayday call moments before the crash.
CCTV footage from Ahmedabad airport shows the plane accelerating normally on the runway before takeoff. However, the aircraft appeared to struggle to gain altitude and flew level for a short period before plummeting to the ground.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Authorities are working to account for all passengers and provide support to the injured and the families of the victims.
