**Kochi Women to Take to the Streets in “Freedom Night Ride”**

**Kochi, India – June 12, 2025** – Around 30 women, aged 15 to 70, in Fort Kochi are set to participate in a “Freedom Night Ride” this Saturday night, declaring their freedom from societal restrictions that limit their movement. The event, organized by SheCycling, a nationwide bicycle literacy campaign for women and girls under BYCS India, aims to empower women and promote their right to freedom of movement.

The ride, supported by Kochi Corporation, Kerala Cycling Association, and others, will begin at St. Francis Church around 9 p.m., with participants cycling through Fort Kochi’s heritage sites before concluding at Fort Kochi beach. The event will also include community bonding, storytelling, and music sessions at local tea shops.

“The whole idea is to transform the mindset of women, the public, and the policymakers,” said Zeenath M.A., SheCycling’s Senior National Project Coordinator. “Women’s empowerment leads to the empowerment of families and society at large.”

SheCycling, supported by BYCS India and BYCS Amsterdam, has trained over 1,000 women across India. This maiden night ride is a bold statement towards women’s safety, freedom and empowerment.
