**Greta Thunberg Detained, Released After Gaza Aid Ship Interception; Calls for Action Upon Return**

**JERUSALEM (June 10, 2025)** – Climate activist Greta Thunberg was released and departed Israel on Tuesday after being detained aboard the British-flagged yacht “Madleen,” part of a Freedom Flotilla attempting to breach the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza. Israeli forces intercepted the vessel in international waters on Monday.

Upon arrival in Paris, Thunberg called for the release of other activists detained in the incident and emphasized the dire conditions facing Palestinians, particularly in Gaza. “The conditions we faced are absolutely nothing compared to what people are going through in Palestine and especially Gaza right now,” she stated at Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The Israeli navy boarded the “Madleen” early Monday, seizing the 12-member crew. The activists were carrying a small amount of humanitarian aid, including rice and baby formula, intending to raise awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Israel dismissed the voyage as a “pro-Hamas publicity stunt,” stating that any usable aid on board would be transferred to Gaza through established humanitarian channels. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the activists were transferred to Ben Gurion airport overnight.

Thunberg accused Israel of “kidnapping” her in international waters.

U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed Thunberg’s claims, saying, “I think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg. She’s a young, angry person… I think she has to go to an anger management class.”

Israel has maintained a naval blockade of Gaza since 2007, citing security concerns and the need to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas. The blockade has persisted through numerous conflicts, including the ongoing conflict triggered by the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
