**Uttar Pradesh Reserves 20% of Police Jobs for Agniveers**

**Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – June 3, 2025** – The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to reserve 20% of positions in the state police force for former Agniveers. The decision, announced after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to provide employment opportunities for veterans of the Agneepath scheme.

The horizontal reservation will apply to direct recruitment for Police Constable, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Mounted Constable, and Fireman positions, across all categories (General, SC, ST, and OBC).

“The main objective of this decision is to ensure meaningful post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers, who complete their four-year tenure under the Agneepath scheme,” said U.P. Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna. “This reservation will be applicable across all categories…within their respective groups.”

In addition to the reservation, former Agniveers will also be eligible for a three-year age relaxation when applying for these positions. The first batch of recruitments under this policy is expected to begin in 2026, coinciding with the return of the first cohort of Agniveers.

The Agneepath scheme, introduced by the central government, allows young Indians to serve in the armed forces for a four-year period.

Chief Minister Adityanath had previously pledged to prioritize Agniveers for government service in July 2024. The government stated that this measure “not only honors the service of Agniveers but also ensures their continued contribution to national security in a new capacity.”
