**New Delhi, India** – In a thrilling encounter, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025, securing their spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday, June 3rd. Shreyas Iyer led from the front with an explosive, unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, including eight sixes, to guide his team to victory, chasing down a target of 204 with an over to spare. Josh Inglis (38 off 21) and Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29) also made valuable contributions.

Mumbai Indians, after being put into bat, posted a competitive 203/6, thanks to contributions from Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, both scoring 44 runs. Naman Dhir’s late blitz of 37 off 18 balls also bolstered the total.

Despite the victory, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh for a slow over rate during the match. The other members of the playing XI were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya faced an even steeper penalty, fined Rs 30 lakh for the same offense. The rest of the Mumbai Indians playing XI were fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their match fees.

This marks Punjab Kings’ first final appearance since 2014, promising a fresh champion for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League as they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
