Mon Jun 02 19:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Major Automakers Issue Recalls Over Rearview Camera and Steering Concerns
**Washington D.C.** – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a series of recalls last week, impacting vehicles from Ford, Stellantis, Volkswagen, and Nissan, primarily due to issues affecting rearview camera functionality and, in one case, potential steering failure.
The largest recall involves over 1 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles potentially affected by a software glitch that can cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or fail to display while reversing. Ford stated it is aware of one minor crash involving property damage potentially related to the issue. Owners will be notified beginning June 16, with a software update expected to be available by the third quarter of 2025.
Stellantis is recalling certain 2022-2025 Ram ProMaster vans for a similar rearview camera issue, attributed to a software error in the security gateway module. Notifications are expected to be mailed starting June 19, and dealers will update the security gateway module software free of charge.
Volkswagen recalled 2024-2025 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas models due to a software error that can distort the rearview camera image. Dealer software updates will be provided at no cost, with owner notification letters scheduled for mailing on July 18.
Nissan’s recall impacts 2025 Frontier and Kicks models, where a software logic error in the center information display unit can cause a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. Software updates will be available at dealerships, and notifications will be sent to owners beginning July 1.
Separately, Ford also recalled certain 2024-2025 F-150 Lightning BEV vehicles due to a potentially loose front upper control arm ball joint nut, which could lead to the front upper control arm detaching from the knuckle assembly, resulting in a loss of steering. Dealers will inspect and replace parts as needed, free of charge. Notification letters are expected to be mailed June 9.
Owners concerned about whether their vehicle is affected by any of these recalls can check USA TODAY’s automotive recall database or search the NHTSA’s database using their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website.
