**Chennai Companies Pedal Towards Greener Commutes**

**Chennai, June 2, 2025** – Companies in Chennai are taking innovative steps to promote sustainable transportation and reduce their carbon footprint. Kothari Petrochemicals in Manali has emerged as a leader in this effort, successfully encouraging its employees to cycle to work. The company gifted over 140 bicycles to employees in 2022 and has since implemented incentives and addressed infrastructural concerns to support cycling commutes.

“We encourage employees to pedal to work at least once a week, and we observe ‘No Bike Day’ once a month,” says Premapiriyan P., Vice-President of Kothari Petrochemicals. The company has also switched to LNG-powered vehicles for employee transportation and added electric cars to its fleet. As a result, Kothari Petrochemicals has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 650 kilos and received the National Award for Excellence in Energy Management in 2024.

Meanwhile, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women is partnering with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to offer a feeder service from the closest metro station to the campus. The initiative supports the college’s “No Vehicle Day,” encouraging students and staff to utilize public transport or cycle to college.

“CMRL got in touch with us and wanted a schedule in advance for them to arrange a service for the benefit of students, which we plan to take up from June,” says Archna Prasad, Principal of M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women. The college aims to encourage students and staff to switch to e-vehicles and will keep “No Vehicle Day” flexible based on student feedback.
