**American Women Surge at Roland Garros: Pegula, Gauff Lead Charge into Second Week**

PARIS – A wave of American talent is making its presence known at the French Open, with Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff leading the charge into the second week of the tournament.

No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula overcame a slow start to defeat No. 6 seed Marketa Vondrousova in a thrilling three-set match (4-6, 6-2, 6-4). Pegula, visibly frustrated after dropping the first set, roared back with aggressive play, breaking Vondrousova’s serve three times in the second set. Superior conditioning ultimately proved the difference in the deciding set.

“I think when I finally broke her I kind of freed up a little bit,” Pegula said. “I thought I was playing her the right way the first set, I just needed to be a tad more aggressive.”

Pegula will face Lois Boisson in the fourth round.

Coco Gauff, the No. 2 seed, also secured her spot in the Round of 16 with a straight-set victory over Bouzkova (6-0, 6-2). Gauff started strong, breaking Bouzkova in her very first service game and never looking back. Gauff, at 21, is the youngest American player to reach the fourth round of seven consecutive Grand Slams since Venus Williams did it from 1997-99.

“I think I served a bit more aggressive in the first set, so I was holding easier and maybe got a little bit too passive on the serve in the second,” Gauff reflected.

Gauff will face No. 20 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in her next match.

In other American action, Madison Keys saved three match points to defeat Sofia Kenin. Keys will now face fellow American Hailey Baptiste in the fourth round, guaranteeing at least one American in the quarterfinals.

The strong American showing at Roland Garros highlights the depth and rising talent within U.S. women’s tennis, promising an exciting second week of competition.
