**LOS ANGELES** – Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim etched his name into baseball history Saturday, delivering a performance for the ages in Los Angeles’s dominant 18-2 victory over the New York Yankees. Kim became the first player in the modern MLB era to record four or more hits, a home run, an unassisted double play, and an outfield assist in the same game.
Kim was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a walk. His second-inning two-run homer, his second of the season, extended the Dodgers’ early lead to 10-0. Defensively, he shone brightly, diving to snag a liner and tag second base for an unassisted double play in the third inning, and later gunning down Yankees slugger Aaron Judge with a pinpoint throw from center field in the sixth.
The impressive outing solidifies Kim’s place on the Dodgers roster, a decision that manager Dave Roberts initially wrestled with given the impending returns of Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez from the injured list. Kim began the season in Triple-A Oklahoma, but since being called up on May 3rd, he’s making the most of his opportunities with a .422 batting average, .458 on-base percentage, and .600 slugging percentage in 48 plate appearances, contributing two home runs and seven RBIs.
“I think that we wanted to get him here to cut his teeth, get his feet wet and see what the big leagues are about, get familiar,” Roberts had previously stated. “But performance, and how he’s playing, certainly helps his case.”
While Kim will sit out Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees, where the Dodgers aim for a sweep, Roberts confirmed he will be back in the lineup on Monday.
