**Preity Zinta’s Suit Against Punjab Kings Co-Owners Dismissed**
**Chandigarh, India** – A Chandigarh court has dismissed a civil suit filed by Bollywood actress and KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited (Punjab Kings IPL team owners) director Preity Zinta against fellow directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia.
The suit, filed by Zinta, challenged the legitimacy of an Extraordinary General Meeting held on April 21st, alleging violations of the Companies Act 2013. Zinta sought to nullify any resolutions passed at the meeting and restrain Muneesh Khanna from acting as a director.
However, Civil Judge Kaushal Kumar Yadav ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. Lawyers representing Ness Wadia argued that the dispute, masked as a civil matter, was fundamentally a case of “oppression and mismanagement” as defined under the Companies Act. They contended that such matters fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
The court concurred, stating that Zinta’s grievances substantially related to oppression and mismanagement. The plaint was rejected under Order VII Rule 11(d) of the Code of Civil Procedure.
While the suit was dismissed, Judge Yadav granted Zinta the liberty to pursue her claims before the NCLT, subject to conditions outlined in Section 244 of the Companies Act, 2013.
Preity Zinta holds a 23% shareholding in KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company which owns the Punjab Kings IPL franchise. The outcome of any potential NCLT filing remains to be seen.
