**Bengaluru to Gain New 153-Acre Biological Park**
**Bengaluru, June 2, 2025** – North Bengaluru is set to gain a significant new green space as the Karnataka Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) handed over 153 acres of land to the Forest Department today. The land, located in Madappanahalli near Yelahanka, will be developed into a biological park comparable to the iconic Cubbon Park and Lal Bagh.
The formal handover was conducted by KFDC Chairman Basavaraju Neelappa Shivannavar to Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre. Minister Khandre announced that the park would provide much-needed green space for the growing population of North Bengaluru.
“Centuries after Lal Bagh and Cubbon Park were developed, Bengaluru will be getting a green space of this magnitude,” said Khandre.
A detailed project report for the park’s development is expected within the next two months. Following the report, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are expected to lay the foundation stone.
The proposed park includes plans for an Indira Gandhi Biological Park, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bird Park, Kempegowda Zoo, and a Saalumarada Thimmakka Arboretum. While the land currently features Eucalyptus trees, these will be cleared and replaced with local tree species and varieties native to the Western Ghats. Currently, there are 800 trees on the land, including Eucalyptus.
Minister Khandre stated that an initial ₹20 crore has been sanctioned for the park’s construction, and the entire plot has been fenced to prevent encroachment.
The new park promises to be a valuable addition to Bengaluru’s green infrastructure, providing recreational space and promoting biodiversity conservation.
