**New Documentary, “Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster,” to Air on Discovery, Revealing New Details of OceanGate Tragedy**
**LOS ANGELES, CA** – A new two-hour documentary, “Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster,” premiering on Discovery on Wednesday, May 28th, will delve into the ill-fated OceanGate expedition to the Titanic wreckage, which resulted in the implosion of the Titan submersible and the deaths of all five passengers on board.
The documentary promises to shed new light on the events leading up to the tragedy, including previously unseen footage from inside the Titan, captured by adventurer Josh Gates during a 2021 test dive. Gates, who originally planned an episode for his Discovery Channel series “Expedition Unknown,” ultimately scrapped the project due to concerns arising from the problematic test dive.
“Implosion” will feature an unsettling interview with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who perished on the voyage along with Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman. The special will also include interviews with technicians, deep-sea explorers, and Rush’s colleagues, examining the insufficient protocols and ignored warning signs that plagued the submersible’s development.
The documentary will provide a detailed account of the final mission, culminating in the tragic implosion, and aims to ignite conversations about the necessary parameters of deep-sea exploration and safety protocols. A video clip obtained by the U.S. Coast Guard in which a loud bang can be heard as OceanGate director of communications Wendy Rush was in contact with her husband will be part of the story.
“Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster” premieres Wednesday, May 28th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery. It will be available to stream the following day on HBO Max. Cable subscribers can also watch online through their TV provider’s website. Cord-cutters can livestream the documentary on services like DirecTV, Hulu + Live TV, Philo, and Sling.
The documentary joins other projects examining the OceanGate disaster, including an upcoming Netflix film.
