Sun Jun 01 17:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Cardinals Shut Out Rangers Behind Contreras’ Performance
**ARLINGTON, TX** – The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 2-0 today at Globe Life Field, thanks in part to a strong offensive showing from catcher Willson Contreras.
Contreras went 1-for-3 at the plate, driving in one run and scoring another. He also drew a walk. His second-inning walk helped spark the Cardinals’ first run when he advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven home by a Nolan Arenado sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, Contreras added to the Cardinals’ lead with a ground-rule double, bringing in Masyn Winn, who had previously doubled himself.
Sonny Gray pitched well for the Rangers, but ultimately took the loss. Ryan Helsley closed out the game for the Cardinals, securing the victory. With the save, Helsley lowers his ERA to 3.0.
The Cardinals’ bullpen also performed admirably, with Phil Maton maintaining his strong season with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.90 FIP after his appearance.
This win provides a boost for the Cardinals as they continue their season.
**Gray’s Stats:** 6-1 Record with a 3.05 xFIP, 3.27 FIP, 3.65 ERA
