**Advocates Allege Trump Administration Adopting Policy to Suppress Pro-Palestine Activism**
Washington, D.C. – Advocacy groups are raising concerns that the Trump administration is implementing strategies outlined in “Project Esther,” a controversial policy document from the Heritage Foundation, to crack down on the Palestine solidarity movement.
Project Esther, framed by its authors as a tool to combat anti-Semitism, is accused by critics of aiming to delegitimize organizations critical of Israeli policies by falsely associating them with Hamas. The initiative emerged following growing protests against U.S. support for Israel’s actions in Gaza, with some experts labeling them as potential genocide.
The document proposes a multifaceted approach, targeting pro-Palestine activists legally, politically, and financially. Key recommendations include denying access to universities for foreign students critical of Israel, suppressing “anti-Semitic content” on social media, and undermining the credibility of Palestine advocates through “legal research.”
Advocates point to recent actions by the Trump administration, such as revoking visas of foreign students critical of Israel and pressuring universities to revamp Middle East studies programs, as evidence that Project Esther’s recommendations are being implemented. The Heritage Foundation, along with Canary Mission are being cited as sources of the administrations “research” on the student protestors.
Project Esther identifies several Arab, Muslim, and progressive Jewish organizations, as well as student groups, as part of a “Hamas Support Network,” with American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) specifically singled out.
Osama Abuirshaid, AMP’s executive director, condemned the allegations as Islamophobic and asserted that the efforts to suppress activism are backfiring, galvanizing support for the Palestinian cause. Beth Miller, political director at Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), echoed these sentiments, stating that the attacks have emboldened activists and raised awareness of the hypocrisy in silencing Palestinian rights advocates.
