Fri May 30 18:32:47 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Government Appoints New BDA Commissioner Amidst Urban Sprawl Concerns

**Bengaluru, May 31, 2025** – The Karnataka government has appointed Manivannan P., a 1998-batch IAS officer currently serving as Principal Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, as the new Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), effective today, May 31st. The announcement was made Friday and published early this morning.

Manivannan P. will succeed Jayaram N., who is retiring from service on the same day. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that the new commissioner will assume his role at a crucial time for the BDA.

The BDA is currently grappling with the slow progress of projects like the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. The recently announced skydeck project within the layout at Kengeri is now set to take shape.

Furthermore, the BDA, alongside the BBMP, has faced considerable public criticism for its alleged role in contributing to unchecked urban sprawl within Bengaluru. Critics claim the authority has approved developments lacking sufficient infrastructure, exacerbating the city’s growing pains. The incoming commissioner will be expected to address these concerns and guide the BDA toward sustainable urban development.
