Sat May 31 12:07:44 UTC 2025: ## Congress Demands Transparency on Operation Sindoor Losses

**New Delhi – May 31, 2025** – The Indian National Congress (INC) is pressing the government to release a comprehensive report on the losses incurred during the recent “Operation Sindoor,” the four-day military conflict with Pakistan. This demand follows Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan’s acknowledgement of aircraft losses during the hostilities, despite dismissing Pakistani claims of downing six Indian jets as “absolutely incorrect.”

Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy seized on Gen. Chauhan’s admission, stating, “The country wants to know whether any aircraft were downed during the conflict, especially in the wake of the CDS’ admission.” He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in a democracy, dismissing accusations of unpatriotism. “This is not about patriotism. We are more patriotic,” he declared, highlighting the Gandhi family’s sacrifices for the nation.

Reddy reiterated the Congress party’s unwavering support for the Indian armed forces, saying, “The party congratulates them as they have done a great job and we are proud of them, we salute them.”

General Secretary Jairam Ramesh drew parallels to the Kargil War, recalling the Vajpayee government’s swift establishment of the Kargil Review Committee in 1999. “Will the Modi government now take a similar step in light of what the Chief of Defence Staff has just revealed in Singapore?” he questioned in a post on X.

Gen. Chauhan, speaking to Bloomberg TV, emphasized the importance of understanding *why* the aircraft were lost, rather than simply focusing on the losses themselves. He highlighted the military’s ability to learn from tactical mistakes and quickly adapt, leading to successful long-range targeting operations. He also specifically refuted Pakistan’s claim of shooting down six Indian jets.

The Congress’s demand for transparency adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Operation Sindoor and its aftermath. The government has yet to respond to the Congress’s call for a comprehensive report.
