**Gaza City** – The United Nations has issued a scathing indictment of Israel’s handling of humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it the “most obstructed” mission in recent history and accusing the nation of deliberately starving the population. With the entire population of Gaza at risk of famine, the UN warns the enclave is the “hungriest place on Earth.”
According to UN officials, despite approvals for 900 aid trucks to enter through the Kerem Shalom crossing, fewer than 600 have been offloaded and even fewer have been distributed. The limited aid reaching Gazans is having “very, very little impact,” according to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.
The UN has also criticized the type of aid permitted, stating that ready-to-eat meals are prohibited, leaving only flour for bakeries, which is insufficient for a complete diet.
Further complicating the situation is the involvement of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US-backed private aid distributor. The UN and other aid groups have refused to collaborate with the GHF, citing concerns about its neutrality and a distribution model that forces the displacement of Palestinians.
“What they are saying about their will to feed the people of Gaza is all lies. They neither feed people nor give them anything to drink,” said Layla al-Masri, a displaced Palestinian.
The UN special rapporteur on the right to food, Michael Fakhri, described the GHF as a “bait to corral people” and accused it of using aid to push people into militarized zones, control the population, and humiliate them.
Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reports that Palestinians are increasingly desperate, with many parents resorting to giving their children water to quell hunger. The lack of organized distribution points further exacerbates the crisis, leaving many empty-handed.
