Sat May 31 04:27:54 UTC 2025: ## Colombia to Issue Statement Supporting India After Delegation Visit

**Bogota, Colombia – May 31, 2025:** Following an all-party delegation visit led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Colombia has agreed to withdraw its earlier statement of condolence regarding deaths in Pakistan during India’s Operation Sindoor and will issue a new statement of support for India’s position.

The announcement was made by Tharoor after meetings with Colombian officials, including the Senior Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and former President Cesar Gaviria. The delegation also included BJP leader and former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and BJP MP Shashank Mani.

Sandhu stated that the delegation provided a detailed briefing that clarified the timeline of events and reversed the Colombian stance. He emphasized the importance of Colombia’s upcoming membership in the UN Security Council.

The earlier Colombian statement had caused dismay in India, particularly in light of the Pahalgam terror attack. Tharoor emphasized to Colombian officials that there should be no equivalence drawn between those who commit acts of terrorism and those who defend against them, asserting India’s right to self-defense.

MP Shashank Mani highlighted Colombia’s own experience with terrorism, stating that the country now understands India’s position. “We have clearly stated that we will give a fitting response to every terrorist attack, and when it is over, we want nothing but peace,” he said.

The delegation will now travel to Brazil and the United States.
