Fri May 30 15:55:05 UTC 2025: **Headline: Paramilitary Attack Devastates Sudanese Hospital, Escalating Health Crisis**

**Obeid, Sudan** – A suspected drone attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Obeid International Hospital in Obeid, North Kordofan, has killed at least six people and wounded 15 others, further crippling Sudan’s already devastated healthcare system amidst ongoing civil war. The attack, which occurred Friday, caused severe damage to the hospital’s main building, forcing its closure and suspending vital services for the region.

The Emergency Lawyers, a local rights group, condemned the attack. A source within the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) confirmed to AFP that a second hospital in the city center was also hit. Obeid serves as a critical supply route for the army to the embattled city of el-Fasher in Darfur.

The assault comes as Sudan grapples with a severe cholera outbreak, exacerbated by the collapse of health services. The Health Ministry in Khartoum reported nearly 1,000 new cholera infections and 25 deaths on Thursday alone. Aid workers estimate that roughly 90% of hospitals in key war zones are non-operational. Since August 2024, over 65,000 suspected cholera cases and 1,700 deaths have been reported across the country.

“Sudan urgently needs an increase in aid to help combat the cholera outbreak,” stated Jean-Nicolas Armstrong Dangelser, emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Sudan. Dangelser emphasized the spread of the disease, including its recent expansion into Darfur due to displacement caused by ongoing conflict.

The violence extends beyond Sudan’s borders. Eleven Sudanese refugees and a Libyan driver were killed in a car crash in Libya on Friday as they fled the conflict. The United Nations estimates that 11 million people have been displaced since fighting erupted between the RSF and SAF in April 2023, with tens of thousands killed. The situation highlights the dire humanitarian crisis gripping Sudan, with a rapidly deteriorating health system and escalating violence forcing millions to flee.
