Fri May 30 11:16:10 UTC 2025: ## Russia Accuses Serbia of Arming Ukraine, Claims “Profiting from the Blood of Slavs”
**Moscow, Russia** – Tensions flared this week as Russia publicly accused Serbia of supplying weapons to Ukraine, alleging that Belgrade is “profiting from the blood of fraternal Slavic peoples.” The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) called the alleged transfers a “stab in the back,” claiming Serbian-made arms are being funneled to Ukraine through NATO-linked countries, including the Czech Republic, Poland, and Bulgaria, as well as unspecified African nations.
According to the SVR statement, these weapons are being used to “kill and maim Russian military personnel and the civilian population.” The accusation comes amidst reports highlighting significant Serbian ammunition exports to Ukraine via third countries since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the formation of a joint working group with Russian officials to investigate the allegations. While acknowledging some discussion on the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Vucic refuted some of the accusations, stating that “Some of the things that have been said are not true.”
The situation highlights Serbia’s delicate balancing act between its traditional alliance with Russia and its aspirations for European Union membership. While Belgrade has condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the UN, it has resisted pressure to join Western sanctions. A leaked Pentagon document from 2023 also suggested Serbia had agreed to supply arms to Ukraine, despite officially declaring military neutrality.
The accusations raise questions about the future of relations between Russia and Serbia, particularly given Moscow’s continued reliance on Serbia as a key gas supplier and its control of Serbia’s only oil refinery. Despite these economic ties, Vucic has also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The investigation will likely shed light on the extent of Serbian arms shipments to Ukraine and the motivations behind Belgrade’s actions, further shaping the complex geopolitical landscape of the ongoing conflict.
