**NCBC Submits Long-Awaited Annual Reports to President, Further Delay Expected Before Public Release**

**New Delhi, May 30, 2025:** The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has finally submitted its Annual Reports for the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24 to President Droupadi Murmu, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced on Friday. NCBC Chairperson Hansraj Gangaram Ahir and Commission Member Bhuvan Bhushan Kamal presented the reports to the President on Thursday.

The reports, mandated by the Constitution, detail the Commission’s review of safeguards for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and outline recommended measures for their protection, welfare, and socio-economic development.

However, the public will have to wait before accessing the contents of these reports. As per protocol, the reports will only be made public after being tabled in Parliament, accompanied by Action-Taken Reports (ATRs) prepared by both the Union and State governments. The last NCBC report laid before Parliament covered the period from 2019-2022.

Sources familiar with the process cite delays in data collection from State governments and the time required to compile ATRs as contributing factors to the lag in submission and public release. This delay mirrors similar situations within the National Commissions for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and Scheduled Tribes (NCST). While the NCSC’s 2022-23 report has been submitted, it awaits tabling. The NCST is facing an even larger backlog, with five reports covering 2018-19 to 2022-23 awaiting presentation to the House.

The submission of the NCBC reports represents a crucial step in addressing the needs of OBC communities, but the subsequent delays raise concerns about the timely implementation of recommended measures.
