**Mangaluru, May 30, 2025** – Due to continued heavy rains, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has extended the holiday for all anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and pre-university colleges on Saturday. Schools were initially closed on Thursday due to the severe weather conditions.
Tragedy struck the region as well. Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada, Dinesh Gundu Rao, visited Montepadavu, where three members of a family perished in a landslide, and Kanakere, near Deralakatte, where a girl died after a retaining wall collapsed. Minister Rao presented the affected families with compensation cheques of ₹5 lakh each.
The administration continues to monitor the situation and assess the need for further measures to ensure public safety.
