Fri May 30 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Nationals’ Bell Breaks Out of Slump, While Ferrer Serenades (Off-Key) in Seattle

**SEATTLE** – Josh Bell delivered a much-needed performance for the Washington Nationals in their dominant 9-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night, showcasing his first three-hit game of the season. Bell, who entered the game batting a mere .151, punctuated his strong showing with an opposite-field home run, a single, and another single, signaling a potential end to his early-season struggles.

“You can’t help but root for Josh Bell,” Nationals manager Davey Martinez said. “The guys love him. We love him. And when he goes oppo like that, it’s huge. Hopefully he stays like that for a while.”

Bell’s breakout performance comes at the end of May, a month where historically he has a track record of strong performance after slow starts. Martinez believes that by focusing on a flatter swing and driving the ball out front, Bell can maintain his improved form. “It’s all about consistency now. If he can continue with that approach, good things are going to happen,” Martinez stated.

Adding a touch of levity to the day’s events, Nationals reliever Jose A. Ferrer has taken up the saxophone, filling the visiting bullpen with a unique, albeit slightly jarring, melody. Inspired by a song he heard in the Dominican Republic, Ferrer purchased the instrument and is learning to play via YouTube tutorials.

Despite his dedication, Ferrer’s musical journey hasn’t been without its challenges. He inadvertently played with an upside-down mouthpiece for three weeks, much to the amusement of his teammates.

“He’s not quite Kenny G yet, but he’ll get it,” Martinez joked. “But I love the fact that he’s putting all the effort in.”

Ferrer remains determined to master the saxophone, hoping to dedicate more time to practice during the offseason and potentially reach “perfection” by next spring training.
