**Bogotá, Colombia -** Veteran Colombian actor Kepa Amuchastegui, best known for his role as Don Roberto Mendoza in the globally acclaimed telenovela “Yo Soy Betty, La Fea” (“Ugly Betty”), has passed away at the age of 83. He died peacefully on Monday, May 27th, at 11:11 PM, surrounded by loved ones, following a battle with bladder cancer.

“He left in a slow and serene breath, this beautiful person,” his family shared in an emotional statement, adding that funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, May 28th. “We will always remember him with much love.”

Amuchastegui had publicly disclosed his diagnosis in late April, detailing his treatment plan, which included a nephrostomy and, due to the severity of the cancer, immunotherapy to slow metastasis. He explained that he was no longer able to work and requested support from his fans by subscribing to his social media accounts.

News of Amuchastegui’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from his colleagues and fans. Ana María Orozco, the star of “Betty La Fea,” wrote, “Adored and unforgettable Kepa, we will miss you.”

Natalia Ramírez, who played Marcela Valencia (Don Roberto’s daughter-in-law) in the series, shared heartfelt memories of their enriching conversations and his wisdom. “This wonderful human being, with whom I had enriching conversations filled with his generosity of thought and wisdom, left an indelible mark on me. I have so many beautiful memories. I’m going to miss you so much.”

Jorge Enrique Abello, who played his son Armando Mendoza, offered a simple but poignant tribute: “Dear Kepa… a goodbye until eternity. Everything I learned from you, I keep in my heart.”

Born in Bogotá on December 9, 1941, to Basque immigrants, Amuchastegui initially studied architecture before finding his passion for the performing arts. He debuted on television in 1983 and went on to star in over 40 productions. Beyond “Yo Soy Betty, La Fea,” his notable roles included Bartolomé de las Casas in “La Reina de Indias y el Conquistador,” the President of Colombia in “La Bruja,” and Alberto Silva in “La Ley del Corazón.” He was also a writer and director, lending his talents to projects like “Punto de Giro,” “Amar Para Vivir,” and “Aprendí a Quererme.”

Kepa Amuchastegui was a beloved figure in Colombian theater and television, leaving behind a legacy of talent and dedication spanning five decades. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and countless fans worldwide.
