**Telangana Issues Health Advisory Amid Heavy Rain Forecast**

Hyderabad, May 29, 2025 – As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rains across Telangana for the next two days, the state’s Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Ravinder B. Nayak, has issued a health advisory urging residents to take precautions against a potential surge in seasonal illnesses.

The advisory warns of a possible increase in vector-borne and waterborne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, acute gastroenteritis, jaundice, and typhoid due to the combination of lower temperatures and higher humidity.

To combat mosquito-borne diseases, the advisory emphasizes the importance of using mosquito screens, repellents, maintaining clean drains, and covering septic tanks. Residents are also encouraged to observe “Friday Dry Day” to eliminate stagnant water, a breeding ground for mosquitos.

Preventing waterborne infections requires drinking filtered or boiled water, maintaining strict hand hygiene, and avoiding stale or roadside food.

The advisory also addresses airborne infections such as viral fevers and influenza, recommending the use of hand sanitizers, covering mouths and noses while coughing or sneezing, and avoiding handshakes. Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms are advised to seek medical attention at the nearest government health facility. The public can dial 108 for ambulance services in case of emergencies.

Dr. Nayak assures that special beds, IV fluids, and essential medicines have been arranged in public health facilities. ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers are also equipped with medicines and ORS sachets for a swift response to any health emergencies. The state government is taking proactive measures to protect the health of its citizens during the expected heavy rainfall.
