**Indian Hospital Pioneers Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery Combining Triple Bypass and Valve Replacement**
**COIMBATORE, INDIA – May 29, 2025** – KG Hospital in Coimbatore has successfully performed India’s first minimally invasive cardiac surgery combining a triple vessel bypass and heart valve replacement. The groundbreaking procedure offers a less invasive alternative to traditional open-heart surgery, resulting in faster recovery times for patients.
The operation was performed on Mr. K.S. Muhammad Nizamuddin, a 60-year-old athletic coach suffering from both valvular heart disease and coronary artery blockages. A team led by Dr. Arun Kumar, a Senior Consultant in cardiothoracic surgery specializing in robotic and minimally invasive procedures, executed the complex surgery through a small 16cm by 7cm incision on the left side of the chest. This technique avoids the need to cut through the sternum, a standard practice in open-heart surgeries.
“Avoiding sternum cutting allowed us to perform the surgery with minimal invasion and a smoother recovery,” explained Dr. Arun Kumar. “Inspired by the work of a Ukrainian surgeon, we were able to address two complex heart conditions simultaneously.”
Mr. Nizamuddin demonstrated remarkable recovery, walking just five days after the operation and resuming his regular activities within a month.
“This is a proud moment for KG Hospital and for Indian medicine,” said Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman of KG Hospital. “This achievement demonstrates our commitment to innovation and providing the best possible care for our patients.”
This pioneering surgery marks a significant advancement in cardiac care in India, offering hope for patients seeking less invasive treatment options.
