Thu May 29 17:36:46 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Hit by Early Monsoon Fury: Traffic and Power Disrupted in Thiruvananthapuram
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 29, 2025** – Heavy rains and high-speed winds caused widespread disruptions and damage across Thiruvananthapuram and its suburbs on Thursday as the early monsoons made their presence felt. Fallen trees and branches blocked roads, disrupting traffic in areas like Ulloor, Kowdiar, Kadakkavoor, and Kazhakuttam. Parked vehicles were damaged in Ulloor and Kowdiar.
A KSRTC bus in Kattakada was struck by a falling tree, resulting in injuries to eleven people, including the conductor. Train traffic on the Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram route was also severely affected after trees fell on the tracks in Kazhakuttam and Kadakkavoor. While the physical obstructions were cleared, restoration of overhead traction power lines was ongoing as of late Thursday night, leaving over ten trains delayed and commuters stranded.
Power disruptions were reported across various electrical sections of the Kerala State Electricity Board. Fire and rescue personnel worked throughout the evening and night to clear debris and restore power. The district administration has established two relief camps and relocated eleven individuals displaced by the storm. The situation remains tense as authorities work to restore normalcy.
