**COVID-19 Related Death Suspected in Belagavi, India**

Belagavi, India – May 29, 2025 – A 72-year-old man from Benakanahalli village in Belagavi is suspected to have died from COVID-19 related complications. The man, who had been experiencing flu-like symptoms, was admitted to a private hospital four days prior before being transferred to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).

According to District Surgeon Vithal Shindhe, the patient presented with breathlessness and other health issues. After testing positive on a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), he was moved to the COVID ward on Monday and succumbed to his illness early Wednesday morning. His swab samples have been sent to Hubballi for further confirmation. Relatives were present and the body was cremated following COVID protocols.

The death marks the second confirmed COVID-19 case in the district. The first, a young pregnant woman, is currently recovering in a private hospital.

Health officials are taking swift action to contain any potential spread. A team of doctors and paramedics has been dispatched to Benakanahalli to conduct COVID-19 testing of all primary and secondary contacts of the deceased and anyone exhibiting symptoms. BIMS staff will be required to wear masks.

“We are taking all necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the virus,” stated District Health and Family Welfare Officer I.P. Gadad.
