Thu May 29 14:30:00 UTC 2025: **Gauff and Pegula Advance Easily at Roland Garros**

**PARIS** – Coco Gauff, the world No. 2, began her quest for a first Roland Garros title with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Australia’s Olivia Gadecki in the first round on Tuesday. Gauff’s win on Court Philippe-Chatrier extends her flawless record to 6-0 in opening matches at the French Open.

The match started with a lighthearted moment as Gauff walked onto the court with an empty racquet bag. Despite the minor mishap, she quickly found her rhythm, winning the first three games of each set and breaking Gadecki’s serve six times.

“I knew the conditions were going to be difficult,” Gauff said, noting the cool weather. “It’s kind of one of those matches I went into knowing it wasn’t going to be pretty tennis all the time. I think it just, with that mindset going in, it just makes you feel better necessarily when you aren’t winning the points the way you kind of want to.”

Gauff will next face Czech qualifier Tereza Valentova in the second round.

Joining Gauff in the next round is Jessica Pegula, the No. 3 seed, who secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Romania’s Anca Todoni. Pegula controlled the first set and, after some minor setbacks in the second, closed out the match with three consecutive games.
