**Liverpool, UK** – Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has expressed his gratitude to emergency services and the community following a serious incident that occurred during the club’s Premier League Trophy parade on Monday. A car was driven into a crowd in the city centre, injuring over 50 people. Eleven individuals remain in hospital in stable condition.
Slot, who was named the 2024/25 Barclays Manager of the Season, withdrew from the League Managers Association (LMA) annual awards ceremony in solidarity with those affected. In a letter read at the ceremony and published on Liverpool’s website, Slot stated his “gratitude to all who helped in the immediate aftermath of the appalling incident.”
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it is one that I feel is absolutely right given the seriousness of the situation,” Slot wrote. He also thanked the football community, including the LMA, the Premier League, and other clubs, for their support.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency services and other authorities in Liverpool who swung into action as soon as the incident happened,” Slot added, praising the supporters and bystanders who offered assistance.
Despite the circumstances, Slot was awarded the Barclays Manager of the Season award, becoming the first Dutchman to achieve the honour after leading Liverpool to their second Premier League title. He also received the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy for the LMA Manager of the Year, voted for by his managerial peers.
Slot humbly acknowledged the award, stating, “I know the incredibly high standard of the managers in the Premier League.” He dedicated the award to those affected by Monday’s incident, asking everyone to “keep those affected by yesterday’s events in your thoughts and prayers.”
Liverpool also swept the other individual awards, with Mohamed Salah named EA SPORTS Player of the Season and Ryan Gravenberch winning the Hublot Young Player of the Season.
