Tue May 27 22:20:00 UTC 2025: **Sindhu and Prannoy Advance, But Dismal Day for Other Indians at Singapore Open**

**Singapore – May 28, 2025** – Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu and H.S. Prannoy provided a bright spot for India at the Singapore Open Super 750 tournament on Tuesday, securing victories to advance to the second round. Sindhu cruised to a comfortable 21-14, 21-9 win over Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in just 31 minutes. However, a tougher challenge awaits her in the next round, as she is set to face Tokyo Olympic gold medallist and world No. 5 Chen Yu Fei of China.

Prannoy faced a more arduous path to victory, battling back from a game down to defeat Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke with a score of 19-21, 21-16, 21-14. He is slated to compete against France’s Christov Popov in the round of 16.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Indian contingent experienced a day of disappointments. Malvika Bansod, Anmol Kharb, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George all suffered defeats in their opening round singles matches. Bansod and Rajawat both relinquished a one-game lead, falling to Supanida Katethong of Thailand and Kodai Naraoka of Japan, respectively. Anmol Kharb was outplayed by Chen Yu Fei of China, while Kiran George was defeated by China’s Weng Hong Yang. R. Santhosh Ramraj also bowed out after losing his men’s singles opener to South Korea’s Kim Ga Eun.

In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were defeated by China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi. Ashith Surya and Amrutha Parmuthesh were also eliminated, losing to Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara. The women’s doubles duo of Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singh suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee.
