**Former Tahsildar’s Assistant Sentenced to Four Years for Bribery in Madurai**

**Madurai, May 27, 2025:** A special court in Madurai has sentenced Chellapandi, a former assistant at the Usilampatti Tahsildar’s office, to four years of rigorous imprisonment for accepting a bribe in 2014. Judge R. Barathiraja also levied a fine of ₹3,000 on the convicted official.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Madurai Unit, filed the case in 2014 after R. Jayamani reported that Chellapandi demanded ₹3,000 to expedite the issuance of a legal heir certificate for Jayamani’s sister, Thedaselvi. DVAC officers set a trap and arrested Chellapandi while he was receiving the bribe. The court found him guilty of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
