Los Angeles, CA – The highly anticipated “Harry Potter” television series on HBO has officially found its core cast. After a massive search involving over 30,000 hopefuls, Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley. Filming is slated to begin this summer.
The announcement was made via a statement from showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod, who expressed their excitement, stating, “After an extraordinary search… we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout, are relatively new to the scene. McLaughlin appeared in the upcoming comedy “Grow,” Stanton starred in “Matilda: The Musical,” and “Harry Potter” will be Stout’s first major role. They join a veteran supporting cast including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, whose involvement has sparked controversy due to her previously voiced opinions on the transgender community. However, HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys defended Rowling’s involvement, stating that her views are personal and will not influence the content of the series.
The “Harry Potter” series is written and executive produced by Gardiner, with Mylod executive producing and directing multiple episodes. The series is being produced in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series also is executive produced by Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Stanton is represented by Gavin Mills and Julie Gordon at Olivia Bell, and Public Eye.
