Wed May 28 03:44:26 UTC 2025: ## Mall Shooting in Connecticut Wounds Five, Suspect at Large

**Waterbury, Connecticut – May 28, 2025:** Five people were injured in a shooting at the Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday afternoon, May 27, 2025. According to Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo, officers responded to reports of a disturbance at approximately 4:40 p.m. and found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims are currently being treated at local hospitals. Chief Spagnolo declined to comment on the extent of their injuries but stated that authorities believe the shooter is a man in his 20s who used a semiautomatic pistol. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect knew the victims and that the shooting stemmed from a prior dispute.

“We do not believe this was a random act of violence,” Chief Spagnolo assured the public during a press briefing outside the mall. He further stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The mall was immediately evacuated, and authorities commended patrons and staff for their cooperation in sheltering in place during the incident. “I think they mitigated a lot of what could have been a really bad incident here,” Chief Spagnolo noted.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont released a statement expressing his condolences to the victims and the Waterbury community. He also confirmed that state police would be assisting with the investigation.

“Our hearts break for the Waterbury community, the victims, and their families who have been impacted by this incident,” Governor Lamont said.

As of Wednesday morning, the suspect remains at large. The Brass Mill Center is located off Interstate 84, approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Hartford, the state capital. The investigation is ongoing.
