**SEPTA Aims for $76 Million in Savings as Budget Deficit Looms**

**Philadelphia, PA** – The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is embarking on a new phase of its Efficiency & Accountability (E&A) Program, aiming to generate $76 million in savings over the next three years as the agency faces a significant $213 million budget deficit.

This announcement follows the successful completion of the first phase of the E&A Program, which identified $91.4 million in annual recurring new revenue and cost savings since 2021. Employees across SEPTA have implemented 140 cost-saving initiatives since 2021.

The new E&A phase will focus on strategic areas including safety improvements, reducing fare evasion, and expanding joint development projects.

“As we continue to make the case for funding transit, we understand that self-help must be part of the solution to put SEPTA in the best financial position possible,” said SEPTA Board Chair Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr.

In addition to the E&A Program, SEPTA has implemented a series of austerity measures, including a hiring and pay freeze for management, reductions in consultant contracts, and a ban on travel and discretionary expenses. These measures have already helped reduce SEPTA’s structural deficit from $240 million to $213 million.

“While we cannot cut our way out of this funding crisis, engaging our employees to help identify opportunities for improved performance demonstrates that we are good stewards of public funds,” said SEPTA Interim General Manager Scott A. Sauer.
