**CHENNAI, May 27, 2025** – Frustration is mounting amongst electric vehicle owners in Chennai as the city grapples with a shortage of charging stations. Residents, particularly in North Chennai, are calling on the Chennai Corporation (GCC) to take immediate action to address the infrastructure deficit.

“We have to drive long distances just to charge our vehicles,” said T. Selvaraj, a resident of Anna Nagar, adding that the current number of privately operated charging stations is inadequate. Residents are urging the GCC to install charging stations in every neighborhood across all 15 zones.

Councillor T.V. Shemmozhi confirmed that a meeting was held with GCC officials to discuss the installation of EV charging stations in Chennai Corporation parks, including the popular Thiru.Vi.Ka Park. “Residents want the charging stations to start functioning without any delay,” he stated.

The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) is also involved, working with the GCC to establish charging stations on government land under a Public-Private Partnership model. According to TNGECL Managing Director Aneesh Sekhar, 15 locations have been identified. However, the revenue-sharing model and final approvals are still pending.
