**Frost Edge Charge in Triple Overtime Thriller, Take Series Lead**
**ST. PAUL, MN (May 25, 2025)** – Katy Knoll played the hero for the Minnesota Frost, scoring the game-winning goal in the third overtime period to secure a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Charge in Game 3 of the PWHL Finals at Xcel Energy Center. The win gives Minnesota a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series, putting them one win away from their second consecutive Walter Cup championship.
The game was a goaltending duel, with Minnesota’s Maddie Rooney stopping 35 shots and Ottawa’s Gwyneth Philips making an impressive 45 saves. Emily Clark opened the scoring for the Charge in the first period, but Frost defender Lee Stecklein leveled the score in the second with a shot from the blue line.
After a scoreless remainder of regulation and two overtime periods, Knoll finally broke the deadlock at 9:57 of the third overtime, capitalizing on a rebound to fire a backhand shot past Philips.
“It’s been awesome playing with Liz (Schepers) and Hymla (Klárá Hymlárová) lately and I think we’ve really gelled well from the end of the season and (in the) playoffs–and we try to just really support each other,” said Knoll.
Stecklein’s goal was her fourth of the playoffs, making her the first PWHL defender to reach that milestone in a single postseason.
“I thought everyone was rolling today and it was just a great team win, and the defense was great in front of me,” said Rooney.
Despite the loss, Ottawa Head Coach Carla MacLeod remained optimistic. “It tells you that there are two great teams competing hard for every opportunity. How we are playing and the heart we are playing with is so impressive.”
The series has been a tight affair, with all three games decided by a 2-1 score in overtime. Game 4, presented by Scotiabank, is scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. ET at Xcel Energy Center.
