**Gloria Estefan to Light Up AMAs Stage After 30-Year Hiatus; Reflects on Latin Music Legacy**
LAS VEGAS – Get ready to “Conga!” Iconic singer Gloria Estefan is set to return to the American Music Awards stage on May 26th after a 30-year absence. The performance, airing live from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas (5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+), will feature a medley of her greatest hits, including the timeless crowd-pleaser “Conga.”
During a rehearsal at the BleauLive Theater, Estefan expressed disbelief at the song’s enduring popularity. The show host and performer Jennifer Lopez emphasized Estefan’s pioneering role in opening doors for Latin artists. Estefan humbly deflected the pioneer label, emphasizing her focus on “moving forward,” and expressing joy in the growing recognition of Latin music in the mainstream. “It’s very gratifying when I see Bad Bunny singing in Spanish on ‘SNL’ or Karol G selling out four stadiums in Madrid with urban music. It makes me very happy.” she told USA Today.
Estefan’s highly anticipated performance coincides with the release of her first all-Spanish album in 18 years, “Raíces,” on May 30th. The album’s title track already soared to the top of Billboard’s U.S. Latin/Latin Airplay chart. The album was produced by her husband, Emilio. The couple will celebrate 47 years of marriage in September.
The AMAs will also feature performances by Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson and Reneé Rapp, along with Icon Award winner Janet Jackson and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Rod Stewart. Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone (8) and Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey (7 each). Taylor Swift, the all-time AMA leader, adds six nominations to her impressive tally.
