Mon May 26 18:40:00 UTC 2025: **Brewers Option Promising Pitcher Henderson Despite Strong Performance, Citing Bullpen Needs and Roster Strategy**
MILWAUKEE – In a move that has both puzzled and frustrated fans, the Milwaukee Brewers have optioned right-handed pitcher Logan Henderson to Triple-A Nashville. The decision comes despite Henderson’s impressive 3-0 record and 1.71 ERA in four major league starts. Henderson is also considered to be a key part of the organization’s future.
Brewers Manager Pat Murphy acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating, “The kid has been so good.” However, the move was made to reinstate left-handed pitcher DL Hall from the 60-day injured list, bolstering the team’s bullpen. Hall’s return, along with the recent reinstatement of Aaron Ashby from an oblique strain, provides crucial depth to a bullpen that is showing signs of strain due to heavy usage.
Murphy explained that the team’s strategy is to build a bullpen capable of handling multiple innings, as many of the Brewers’ starting pitchers are typically built for five innings. By adding Hall and Ashby, the Brewers aim to alleviate the workload on relievers such as Nick Mears and Jared Koenig.
The Brewers have used 11 starting pitchers this season and understand the importance of stockpiling starters to prepare for more injuries as the season progresses. The current rotation includes Peralta, Civale, Patrick and Priester, with Quintana scheduled for rehab. Woodruff is also working his way back from shoulder surgery.
Another factor in sending Henderson down and not Priester is to preserve roster flexibility. Priester has limited Minor League options remaining, and the Brewers want to avoid burning those options unless absolutely necessary.
Murphy emphasized that the decision was made with the long-term success of the team in mind, both in terms of winning games and preserving starting pitcher depth. The Brewers view Henderson as a valuable asset and assured him that he would be back in the majors soon.
