Tue May 27 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## India Weather Alert: Monsoon Rains Cause Disruption, IMD Issues Warnings for Multiple States
**New Delhi, May 27, 2025** – Heavy monsoon rains have arrived in several parts of India, including Mumbai and Kerala, causing disruption and prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue widespread weather alerts.
Mumbai experienced an uncharacteristically early monsoon arrival, two weeks ahead of schedule, leading to significant flooding and transportation delays. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary due to the potential risks.
Heavy rainfall has impacted daily life in Pune, Satara, Solapur, Raigad, Mumbai, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) of Maharashtra. In Baramati, 25 homes were partially collapsed, seven people were rescued from floodwaters, and 80 families were evacuated.
The IMD forecasts heavy rainfall to continue in several states. **Red alerts** are in effect for parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, until May 30th. **Orange alerts** have been issued for thunderstorms and hailstorms in six districts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday.
**Here’s a regional breakdown of the weather forecast:**
* **Delhi-NCR:** Partly cloudy skies with light rain and winds gusting up to 40 km/h are expected. The maximum temperature will be between 40-42 degrees Celsius, with humidity persisting. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi until May 29th, forecasting thunderstorms and rain.
* **Rajasthan:** A mix of weather conditions is predicted, with thunderstorms, dust storms, and light rain providing relief from the heat in many districts. However, some areas continue to experience heatwave conditions. A thunderstorm and rain alert has been issued for 16 districts.
* **Uttar Pradesh & Bihar:** Thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are expected in districts including Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur. Moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted in several districts of Bihar. The IMD expects relief from the heat with thunderstorms and rain until May 29.
* **South India:** Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are under a heavy rainfall warning from May 27th to 30th, accompanied by strong winds.
* **East India:** Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
* **Northeast India**: Monsoon has further advanced into west central and northern Bay of Bengal, the remaining parts of Mizoram, entire Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and parts of Meghalaya.
* **Other Regions:** The IMD also anticipates widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Odisha from May 26th to 31st.
The early monsoon and associated rainfall have brought joy to farmers, who are preparing their fields for rice cultivation. The changed weather conditions have also provided a respite from the intense heat experienced during the “Nautapa” period.
**Important Note for Farmers in Punjab:** The IMD has warned of potential thunderstorms and rain in Ludhiana, Patiala, and other districts of Punjab. Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their crops and fields from damage due to strong winds.
