**Kansas City, MO -** The Kansas City Royals secured a hard-fought victory against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, thanks to a clutch RBI single from Maikel Garcia in the 10th inning. The game, which turned into a bullpen battle after Kris Bubic’s strong start, saw Garcia deliver the decisive blow off Twins closer Jhoan Duran.
“Yesterday, he threw me a lot of breaking balls,” Garcia said of Duran. “Today he attacked me with the fastball…The adjustment I did was to put the ball in play.”
Freddy Fermin also earned high praise from manager Matt Quatraro, who lauded his leadership, preparation, and competitive spirit. “Freddy can do it all, man…He is a leader and … he doesn’t take any pitches off.”
In other Royals news, slugger Jac Caglianone continues to tear up Triple-A, hitting two home runs on Sunday, extending his streak to four consecutive games with a homer. His first home run traveled a staggering 459 feet at 108.6 mph off the bat.
The Royals also provided updates on injured pitchers Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, and Hunter Harvey. Lugo is on track for his scheduled return, while Ragans is throwing at 100% and will soon progress to mound work. Harvey, however, experienced soreness after throwing off the mound and will take a step back in his recovery. Kyle Wright made a rehab start in Double-A.
Elsewhere in baseball, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal pitched his first career complete game, Ryan O’Hearn homered twice for the Orioles. Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz hit the hardest-hit home run of the Statcast era, and Guardians pitcher Nic Enright made his MLB debut two years after a cancer diagnosis. Boston has promoted top prospect Marcelo Mayer.
Outside of baseball, Alex Palou became the first Spanish driver to win the Indy 500.
