**Jackie Chan Warns CGI Stunts Are Distorting Audience Perception of Danger**
**HONG KONG -** Action movie icon Jackie Chan has voiced concerns about the increasing reliance on computer-generated imagery (CGI) in modern action films, arguing that it diminishes audiences’ understanding of the real risks involved in stunt work.
In a recent interview with Haute Living magazine, the 71-year-old martial arts legend expressed his apprehension that CGI-enhanced stunts create a false impression of safety. “With all this computer magic, actors can do anything they want on screen,” Chan stated, adding that, “there is still this feeling that something real is missing”. He acknowledged that CGI allows for spectacular stunts impossible in reality but worries it blurs the lines between what is dangerous and what is not, impacting audience perception.
Despite his concerns about CGI, Chan emphasized that he does not advocate for actors risking their lives to replicate his past daredevil feats. “It is seriously dangerous stuff,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to performing his own stunts, a practice he has maintained for over six decades. “Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s just who I am. That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never!”
Beyond his iconic action roles, Chan revealed a desire to explore different genres and showcase his versatility as an actor. “I want to do something outside of action. I want to be an actor who can handle different roles… I’m always trying to break boundaries.”
Reflecting on his career, Chan underscored the importance of creating commercially successful and engaging films. “Most of the movies I made were commercial films, so it wasn’t that much of a conflict. I would constantly brainstorm how to design an action sequence to make it more appealing to the audience.” He concluded by sharing his personal philosophy of continuous self-improvement and authenticity: “You can’t make everyone satisfied and happy, so the only thing you can do is be true and honest to yourself.”
Jackie Chan stars in “Karate Kid: Legends,” set for release in Singaporean theaters on June 6.
