Sun May 25 18:20:00 UTC 2025: ## U.S. Men’s Hockey Team Pursues Second World Championship Gold Against Switzerland

**STOCKHOLM, Sweden (May 25, 2025) –** The U.S. Men’s National Team will face Switzerland today in the gold-medal game of the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship, seeking their first title in 92 years. Faceoff is set for 8:20 p.m. local time (2:20 p.m. ET) at Avicii Arena, and the game will be broadcast live on NHL Network.

Team USA, led by head coach Ryan Warsofsky, has dominated the tournament with an 8-1 record. Their only loss came against today’s opponent, Switzerland, who blanked them 3-0 during preliminary round play. The Americans are coming off a dominant 6-2 victory over Sweden in yesterday’s semi-final, breaking a 12-game losing streak at that stage of the tournament. Shane Pinto led the charge with a goal and two assists, while goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves.

Offensively, the U.S. boasts a balanced attack with five players – Frank Nazar, Logan Cooley, Conor Garland, Clayton Keller, and Shane Pinto – all having amassed 10 or more points, a feat unmatched by any other team in the tournament. Swayman has been stellar in net, boasting a perfect 6-0 record with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage.

Switzerland advanced to the gold-medal game after a commanding 7-0 victory over Denmark in their semi-final matchup. They are seeking their first title in the tournament.

The U.S. team’s sole gold medal came in 1933. The last time they secured a silver medal was 75 years ago. Their only previous appearance in the gold-medal game since then was in 1934, where they lost to Canada.

The Americans will need to overcome their earlier loss to the Swiss and maintain their offensive firepower to secure their second-ever World Championship gold.
