**49 Injured in Jallikattu Events Across Tamil Nadu**

**Tiruchi/Pudukottai, India – May 25, 2025** – Traditional bull-taming events, Jallikattu, held in Mahalikudi village of Tiruchi district and Mathiyanallur in Pudukottai district on Sunday resulted in injuries to 49 people.

In Mahalikudi, 476 bulls were released with 184 tamers participating. Authorities report 35 injuries, with two individuals requiring hospitalization at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi. The remaining 33 received outpatient treatment at the event site.

The Mathiyanallur event saw the release of 714 bulls and involved 250 tamers. Fourteen injuries were reported, with 12 individuals transferred to the Pudukottai Government Medical College Hospital and the Government Hospital, Annavasal. The other two injured participants were treated on-site.

Jallikattu is a controversial but popular sport held during the Pongal harvest festival in Tamil Nadu. While supporters celebrate it as a cultural tradition, animal rights activists raise concerns about animal welfare and safety.
